Why I'm not married (and it's not because I'm an angry slut)
February 23, 2011
For folks who read Tracy McMillian's recent article on Why You're Not Married, here's the other side of the story, from an unmarried Jessica Ravitz at CNN on why she's not married. According to Ravitz, McMillian's list of six reasons missed the most important one: "life happens."
Although this is more a personal account than an attempt to defend all unmarried women, to me, its also an a reminder of the fact that we're in a moment when marriage isn't the most important accomplishment women can achieve - and many women have very full lives without being married - so unless its something women actively want, its very easy to end up 40 and unmarried. Is that a bad thing? I guess it depends on who you ask.
What I hope we don't end up doing is pitting married women against unmarried women. That would be a shame.

See my prueiovs comment. If going to a prostitute counts as cheating (and I don’t see why it shouldn’t), then you’re essentially right except that the superslut theory makes more sense than you’ll credit. We can find them: namely, prostitutes a small(ish) subset of women who have lots and lots of sex with a large number of male partners. They may be married or not.
