About Role Reboot

Role Reboot is a contemporary culture magazine about living “off script.”

We live in a world built on outdated assumptions about men and women’s roles. At Role Reboot, we’re trying to understand and embrace the changing realities of all our lives and support each other. That’s why we’re more than a magazine—we’re also a movement.

We prize the personal narrative and believe that honest storytelling is the most powerful form of consciousness-raising. We believe that storytelling can subvert the idea that things have to be the way they are, and as philosopher Hannah Arendt once said, that “storytelling reveals meaning without committing the error of defining it.”

We’re a group defined mostly by what we are not. We’re not the Cleavers or Ozzie and Harriet (nor do we want to be). We don’t aspire to the status quo. We’re forward thinking, creative, and counter-cultural. We’re concerned about deeply embedded “traditional” roles and expectations that often dictate how we structure our lives. We’re creating our own rules. We’re naturally a big-tent movement for anyone trying to live a life free from unhelpful “shoulds.”

While others rally for “New Normal,” we will continue to champion the ideal of “No Normal.”
