She Makes More Money Than He Does. So?

Check out Hanna Rosin’s most recent.  Talk about a “shift generation”-  A recent review of Census data shows that women under the age of 30 are making more money than men in all but three of the 150 biggest cities in the United States.

Meanwhile, in a recent Pew Research Center survey, 67 percent of Americans said that in order to be ready for marriage, a man should be able to support his family financially, while only 33 percent said the same for women.

Isn’t it about time that straight couples rethink what we mean when we say we want a man to “support” us?

And why is it that the reality of our lives is still in such tension with cultural norms and expectations?  Why do many women still look to men for financial support even when we’re  outearning them?
