Women At War

This article by Elizabeth R.Varon is interesting because it shows once again that the role of women in history is largely ignored.  However, more interesting to me is the way she chronicles how manhood and womanhood notions were used extensively in the rhetoric surrounding the war.  I would like to think that this is part of our long buried history but with all the “man up” and other illusions in our current climate, it appears to be a tradition still very much alive.
